ruthbancroftgarden: Aloe castillonae

Aloe castillonae

Aloes are found over much of Africa (especially in the south and the east) as well as on the Arabian Peninsula and on islands in the Indian Ocean. Notable among these islands for its bounty of aloes is Madagascar, and this is where Aloe castillonae comes from, growing on a rocky bluff in the southwestern part of the country. The stems elongate over time and spill down the rocks, and the leaves curl back as seen in the photo. The little cluster of flowers is like icing on the cake.
