#雪吊り (yuki-tsuri) is a technique used to protect trees from heavy snow. Rope & bamboo-supported trees like this one are ubiquitous in #Hakodate — a curious sight if you’re unfamiliar with the practice.
What I loved most, though, was seeing the piles of puffy snow that looked exactly like those painted by ukiyo-e masters like #Hokusai and #Hiroshige. If you’d never seen the inspiration in person, you might think their snow was exaggerated. But no, the reality is that delightful. http://bit.ly/2Amp9hu
